Basal squamules small, inconspicuous, 1–2 mm long, 0.5–1 mm diam.; margins with or without soredia. Podetia growing from basal squamules, 1–2, rarely to 3 cm tall, 0.5–1.5 mm diam., simple or rarely branching near apices, escyphiferous, ecorticate and floury-sorediate apart from short, smooth corticate areas at base and under apothecia, pale green; sterile podetia blunt or subulate; rarely squamulose from the basal corticate areas. Apothecia terminal when present, 0.5–2 mm diam., convex, red. CHEMISTRY: K+ yellow or K-, KC-, P+ yellow or P-. Barbatic (major), ±4-O-demethyl barbatic (trace), ±didymic (major), ±condidymic (trace), ±thamnolic acids or rarely squamatic (major) and consquamatic (minor) acids. | ||
Occurs in W.A., Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic., Tas. and Norfolk Is.; cosmopolitan; grows on dead wood or soil. | ||
